Entry to Brockhurst & Marlston Schools
Entry to Brockhurst & Marlston Schools
Children can join at any point, subject to space being available, and we have children joining at all times of the year as well as in September. Our youngest age of entry is from 2 years subject to both parents and staff feeling a child is ready.
Pre-entry Assessment
We are proudly non-selective and do not require pupils to sit a standard formal academic assessment. We prefer to look at the individual circumstances of each pupil. Our aim is to welcome a wide cross section of abilities because we believe this creates a rounded school in which children have a broad range of talents and interests.
In most cases, teachers conduct informal assessments of children when they visit for taster sessions. These are primarily intended to identify strengths and weaknesses and to inform our teaching when a pupil starts.
In some cases, we may require a more detailed assessment using standard aptitude tests before confirming a place or a more detailed appraisal by our Learning Development Centre.
Taster Days
Children thoroughly enjoy one or even several taster sessions which enable them to quickly establish new friends and to become familiar with their new surroundings. We always have a buddy system to guide new children through their first few weeks.
Uniform
Our uniform reflects our country prep school roots. It is smart but also comfortable and flexible, allowing the children to properly stretch their legs at break times. Like many leading independent schools we use Stevensons to supply our uniform. Their online service is extremely efficient. In addition, we have a well-stocked second hand uniform shop run by our parent association. Find out more about this in the link to Our Community below.
Your welcome into the Brockhurst and Marlston Community
We are a community and our parents enjoyment and experience of the school is as important to us as that of our children. We work collaboratively with our parents to ensure the best possible outcomes for all of our pupils. We have an open door policy and you are always welcome to discuss you child’s progress with the Form Tutor or the Head. There are many avenues by which we enable you to be involved in the life of the school through our BMR parents association.
