Brockhurst & Marlston House Schools
Welcome
Our Pre-prep is a wonderfully happy part of the School where the children can learn, play and have fun. I see a key part of my role as making our learning environment as stimulating and nurturing as possible and believe in equipping our youngest children with the tools to move forward in their education. They are encouraged to be active and curious learners who are willing to have a go and risk making mistakes, realising that this is a key part of making progress.
We, of course, have all the excellent facilities of the school available to us and small class sizes. As part of our exciting development of Ridge House we are opening new nursery and reception areas that will lead directly onto our beautiful playground in September 2021
I am sure you will enjoy the excited chatter, the purposeful buzz in the classrooms and the friendly atmosphere and hope you will be able to imagine your child having such a special start to their education. I look forward to showing you round our wonderful pre-prep.

Our Aim
The aim of the Pre-Prep is to give children a happy start to school life, to provide opportunity to work and play together in an ordered and happy atmosphere and to foster kindness, good manners and consideration for others. We believe that a thorough grounding in Literacy and Numeracy lays the foundation for a confident and successful school career.
Curriculum
Throughout their time at the Pre-Prep, children are taught using a creative curriculum to stimulate their curiosity and questioning. From the nursery upwards our focus is on developing independence, self-confidence and enquiring minds.
Children have boundless energy and love to be outdoors and active. We have a firm philosophy that children, with the right clothing, can be outside whatever the weather and indeed love splashing about in puddles and mud and exploring our lovely grounds and woods! Lessons are taught outside whenever possible showing that learning isn’t just about being in a classroom. In fact, we love nothing more than jumping in our minibuses and extending our learning in our local environment. A few of our favourite adventures include visiting Thatcham Discovery Centre to learn about minibeasts or Newbury train station to see the trains whizzing past.
